Putting the CARE back into HEALTHCARE
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is the old fashioned way to provide good healthcare that starts at the the primary care level.
DPC doctors do not work for an insurance company. As a matter of fact, they do not bill insurance for any of their services.
All primary care services are included for one low monthly fee charged on a per patient basis.
Would you like to have access to a doctor that knows who you are and has your best health at heart?
Do you want to be able to go in for same day appointments?
Do you want to be able to consult with your doctor for 30-45 minutes during each visit, and get a chance to really talk, without feeling rushed and not listened to?
Do you want your doctor's cell phone number?
Do you prefer to send emails that your doctor will respond to right away?
DPC makes this possible and it is extremely good value for money.
Benefits of having a DPC doctor:
- Better management of chronic conditions
- Avoid unnecessary ER and Urgent Care visits
- Better cost management, eg. prescriptions and diagnostics
- No copays for visits, no deductible applies
- Home visits available for people who are recovering from a medical event
- Health coaching and focus on prevention and better health
- No stress dealing with insurance
- Having a doctor that does not work for an insurance company
- Having a doctor that has the time to really take care of their patients
- Having a doctor that really loves their job
- Building a long term relationship with a doctor that has your best interest at heart; physically, emotionally and financially
What is Direct Primary Care?
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is not a new concept. It is the way primary care medicine was practiced in the old days before insurance companies stepped in and took control of health care at the primary care level.
Imagine you paid for car insurance that covered oil changes and wiper blades and other maintenance. That sounds absurd, and will be very expensive. That is what is currently built into health insurance.
DPC doctors do not take any insurance. They charge a flat monthly fee as a membership to their patients. This fee covers all services provided by the primary care doctor to their patients. No copays or coinsurance.
Typical services that are provided are:
Anxiety / Depression
Colds / Flu
Sprains / Strains
Cuts & scrapes
Burn / Wound Care
Routine Blood Work
*Certain lab testing does have fees. Typically they are negotiated cash pricing with labs. Ask your local DPC doctor for more information.
Who am I?
My name is George Claassen. I live in southern Maine with my wife and daughter and our two dogs.
I am an employee benefits strategist and consultant. I work with my wife Mary Tolan. Our company is called Class Insurance Consulting.
Over the past several years we have witnessed the continued rise in health insurance costs. This is a tremendous burden to individuals and businesses alike. Our clients always look at me to come up with solutions to fight this trend. The tools available have been pretty limited. We can look at cost shifting the expense to employees. We can look at going with smaller networks. We can look at working with carriers that have more limited plans. At the end, everyone is always giving up better benefits and paying more for less. That is, until recently.
In 2015 I met the first DPC doctor in Massachusetts. His name is Dr Jeff Gold. He told me why he was opening a practice that does not take insurance. His story fascinated me. Dr Gold was getting burned out by having to take care of a panel of over 2700 patients. Each day he had to see over 20 patients and could spend 5-7 minutes with each of his patients on average. He told me he never thought his career would be anything like this when he was in medical school. He literally did not have the time to do his job properly and to take care of his patients the way he was trained to take care of them. He started looking for alternative ways to practice medicine, and when he learned about DPC, he knew what he had to do.
I started to work with Dr Gold to look at some of his patients' health insurance benefits. With DPC, a lot of his patients did not need health insurance plans with very low deductibles and high premiums. I literally saved dozens of his patients hundreds of thousands of dollars in health insurance premiums. A lot the people I helped have small businesses. They do not have employer contributions to help them pay for their benefits. They have to pay the full premiums each month. Some people were paying more for their family health plan than for their mortgages.
Our primary focus now is to help DPC practices find small and midsize businesses in their area who want to hear about real solutions for the trending rise in health insurance premiums their businesses and employee face each year at their renewals. We use a different approach from most of the brokers out there. The end result is happier, healthier and more productive employees, as well as a business that gets better value for the money they spend on benefits. A business that likes to invest in their employees and give them great benefits is a perfect fit for DPC and my services. I show them a cost effective way to do this. Myself and the DPC doctors provide the necessary education and work closely together to make this a great experience for everyone.
There are many strategies we use to provide better benefits. It is not a cookie cutter mold that only works for certain types of businesses. We would meet with businesses and listen to their challenges and concerns. We always bring a DPC doctor or two with us. Together we all come up with a plan that works in everyone's best interest. It is a close partnership between the employer, the employees, the doctors and myself. The goals are clear. No smoke and mirrors. Everything is done in a transparent way to provide maximum value to all involved.
Working with DPC doctors and Class Insurance Consulting does not mean everyone has to change doctors, or give up their health insurance. There will be some changes, but at the end of the day, employees get better value when it comes to their healthcare. They also get easy access to doctors that they will be building a long term relationship with; doctors that has their best health as their primary focus. Doctors they have access to via their practice and open channels of communication with via phone, email and text message.
We enjoy sharing real solutions to one of the most challenging problems facing businesses today.
We love to see our clients become smart consumers of their healthcare.
We delight in saving a lot of money for companies and employees.
And we are proud to put together packages that help employees have access to great primary care doctors with no cost to themselves.
“When I opened the first Direct Primary Care practice in MA in February of 2015, I was excited, but also very nervous as to how to handle the barrage of questions I was bound to receive regarding health insurance. "What do I do about my insurance if I use a DPC physician?" "What type of insurance plan works best with this model?" "If I pay twice how am I going to save money?" The list goes on. Thankfully during my open houses George Claassen appeared and was very excited to learn about this new/old model of primary care. Since that night over a year ago, George and I have developed a strong, trusting professional relationship. We continue to learn from one another as we try to grow the model of DPC to more individuals, families, and employers. The trait I respect most about George is his willingness to put his clients personal health and financial health before his own goals. He has embraced this personalized model of care and the way that, if paired with the correct insurance plan, can not only provide top notch healthcare, but also reduce his clients spend. George and I, as well as my partner Dr Carmela Mancini, have just begun this journey together and he is one of few brokers that I would take this ride with.”
